Foreign material testing is an important part of evaluating the quality of a corn sample. The Seedburo 9000AG Computer Grain Grading Scale simplifies the process by storing the original sample weight and automatically calculating the percentage of foreign material after separation. Equipment Needed Before beginning the test, gather the following equipment: Seedburo 9000AG Computer Grain Grading Scale Two triangular sample pans 12/64 round-hole sieve E bottom catch pan A representative corn sample of approximately 250 grams Step 1: Assemble the Sieve and Catch Pan Place the 12/64 round-hole sieve inside the E bottom catch pan. The sieve allows smaller foreign material to pass through while retaining the corn kernels above it. Step 2: Zero the Sample Pan Place one triangular sample pan on the 9000AG scale. Press the Zero button to tare the scale. This removes the weight of the pan so the scale measures only the sample and separated foreign material. Keep this same pan available for the final measurement. Step 3: Weigh and Store the Corn Sample Place the corn sample in the second triangular pan and set it on the scale. Corn samples used for this process are typically around 250 grams. Press the Memory button to store the original sample weight. The 9000AG will use this stored weight to calculate the final foreign material percentage. Step 4: Transfer the Sample to the Sieve Pour the corn sample onto the 12/64 sieve. Return the tared triangular sample pan to the scale so it is ready for the separated foreign material. Step 5: Shake the Sieve Set Shake the sieve set for 30 individual strokes. One complete back-and-forth motion counts as two strokes. This means the sieve should be moved through 15 complete back-and-forth motions to equal 30 individual strokes. As the sieve is shaken, smaller foreign material passes through the sieve and collects in the bottom catch pan. Step 6: Weigh the Foreign Material Remove the top sieve from the catch pan. Transfer the foreign material collected in the bottom pan into the triangular sample pan that was previously tared on the scale. The display will initially show the weight in grams. Step 7: Display the Percentage Press the Percentage button on the 9000AG. The scale will compare the foreign material weight with the stored original sample weight and display the foreign material percentage. In the video demonstration, the corn sample measured 0.22% foreign material, indicating a relatively clean sample.
